How Do We Make This Happen?
How do we make this happen?
While the Sweetwater Union High School District is a supporter of the arts, it is limited in what it can provide, and programs such as The Music Machine and Sound Unlimited are generally not funded beyond the basics of a teacher’s salary and a stipend for sheet music. Obviously, more is needed in order for The Machine and Sound Unlimited to be competitive and maintain the quality of their programs. This is why the Vocal Music Foundation (originally called the Music Machine Boosters) was originally founded in 1983. No student has ever been denied participation in these or any vocal music program at Bonita Vista High School due to a parent’s inability to pay, and the Boosters help to ensure that the enrichment opportunities are available to all students.
Options for fundraising are severely limited as State law governs what families can be asked to pay for, leaving general fundraising as the main source of income. Proceeds from group fundraisers benefit all students in the groups.
Several large event fundraisers are held throughout the year. The success of these fundraisers is entirely dependent upon the voluntary participation of our families, as well as donations of goods and time. Other income includes donations by local organizations for performances, sale fundraisers such as See’s Candy and car washes, annual rummage sales, show ticket sales, concession sales at shows and various events, the annual Foundation-hosted San Diego Sings choral competition, grants, community donations, and parent/family monetary donations. We are also always on the lookout for grant and corporate sponsorship opportunities. If you have any connections, please send them our way!
